Working for a corporation is better than working for a small company.

Will probably be especially unpopular with younger generations but I’m a millennial and have worked in management for small, medium, and currently a large corporation and my present career experience is far better than any other company I’ve worked for.

I’ve found that smaller companies tend to have a workforce who fears ownership, often one owner or family ownership, and it’s always an ‘emperor has no clothes situation’. The company hangs on every word of ownership and are often subjected to the personal whims of the owner. Moods of owners can typically swing wildly in an authoritative and self-righteous way. Regardless of reality you are subjected to a greater preconceived management narrative.

My experience with a large corporation has been quite different. No one person feels so responsible for the companies success so egos are more reasonable. Responsibilities are clear, oversight is respectful, and all personalities are respected and included into the team mindset. There’s more opportunity for advancement, raises match performance, further education is encouraged, etc.

The entrepreneurial spirit, competition, and free markets are so important , which tend to be aligned more often with small business. But in my opinion leadership is often handed down too often to children via nepotism, or unfit leaders exploit their luck with fits and stops of delusions of grandeur.

Working for a corporation is better than working for a small company.
