I am an insurance advisor, home/auto/business, and it seems to me that people always think “the insurance company will take your money, but fight with you when you want them to pay for something”. In my experience it’s just the opposite. They pay when there is cover and don’t when there isn’t.
People don’t know their coverage and get mad when something happens that is not covered, it’s clearly stated in the policy what is covered too.
It’s so bad that people call me and ask what they should say to make sure
The claim is covered, like the adjusters are just fools who believe anything I say.
Be honest, take care of your stuff so that it doesn’t get wrecked and assume some responsibility for your lack of action to prevent losses.
Biggest examples: I need a rental car after accident but declined rental car reimbursement.
My basement flood and they will only ou 2.5k. -“well your water back up limit is 2.5k”
My roof was damaged and they won’t pay for a whole new roof. -“well your roof is 30 years only and even the parts that didn’t blow off are trash and need to be replaced “
List goes on and on.
