I appreciate good service and honestly I want the bare minimum but I hate over friendly waiters that want to chit chat and tell me about the menu. I already know what I want because I studied the menu days before. I don’t want to be told about the appetizers and be upsold. Don’t get me wrong I’m never rude and always tip well because I was in the service industry too and serving people that are rude and ungrateful is the fucking worst. Maybe that’s why I just want to be ignored. Maybe I’m the only one.
Edit: I understand some chain restaurants it’s part of training to talk about the menu and introduce themselves and maybe feel the need to linger longer than at a mom and pop shop and that’s fine. I understand that and don’t hold it against them and it doesn’t effect the tip.
I just mean generally I don’t want to chat with a stranger and be interrupted while I’m eating. I just want to enjoy my meal with a friend/family member.
I just think businesses have been told by so many Karen’s over the years staff should always be overly friendly and basically wait on someone hand and foot for it to be considered good service whereas most people , I think, just kind of don’t want to be bothered.
