I have been thinking about this idea this week.
I think I’m good at being bad. In high school, I lettered in three sports. I was by far the worst on each team. After college, I have been sort of collecting hobbies. Rock climbing, skating, stained glass, board games, etc, and I have found I am able to get to a “proficient” level, but not amazing. I’ll never be great at rock climbing, but I can hang with those who are. I can skate 10 miles on a greenway, but I can’t do any tricks. I can make a stained glass window, but my original ideas are rudimentary at best. I’m good at board games, but I don’t play the intensely long and complicated ones that enthusiasts love . I think my goal should be to become proficient in as many things as I can, gain skills, and not focus on being the best. I can be a jack of all trades. Does anyone share this mentality? I feel like many people I know pick one hobby, hyper focus and become the best that they can be.
I think I’m going to try surfing next.
